A software maintenance management model based on queueing networks

چکیده
A model of the software maintenance process within a medium-sized organization is described. We set out both the abstract model and its implementation as part of a management tool, the Intelligent Software Maintenance Management System (ISMMS) prototype. The ISMMS provides a simulation environment for two sorts of management activities. In interactive mode, the characteristics of a particular set of maintenance tasks can be fed into the simulation, and decisions on the allocation of real personnel, tools and resources tested. In automatic mode, a spectrum of tasks is generated and different automatic allocation strategies are statistically evaluated against these. In both modes, the simulation draws on a database which is customized to accurately reflect the particular resources and characteristics of the organization using the model. The abstract maintenance process underlying the prototype is described in terms of queues arranged in a topological network. This provides a clean design which has been successfully implemented using a three-layer software architecture in the prototype; the abstract queueing model is implemented as a synchronized predicate-net which in turn is implemented in Prolog, and we describe the implementation here, as well as its behaviour from the users point of view.

Evaluating the Efficiency and Benchmarking of Regions in an Electricity Distribution Company Using a Public Lighting Asset Management Model
Public lighting networks are constructed and maintained to provide social security and traffic safety. Due to the expansion of cities, the development in public lighting is inevitable. In addition to new investment, the public lighting service and maintenance program imposes high costs on distribution companies. Since performance assessment methods focus on a combination of key performance indi...

A set of technical, administrative and management activities are done in the life cycle of equipment, to be located in good condition and have proper and expected functioning. This is refers to be, maintenance management system (MMS). The framework and models of assessment in order to enhance effectiveness of a MMS could be proposed in two categories: qualitative and quantitative. In this resea...

متن کاملMaintenance management decision model for preventive maintenance strategy on production equipment
In industries, Preventive Maintenance (PM) is not a new practice to minimise the sudden breakdown of production machine. PM will be performed at predetermine intervals to provide a balance between failure cost and component utilisation (aging). However, most of PM interval is based on experience or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommendations. Consequently, the benefits from PM are not...
متن کاملApplying BCMP multi-class queueing networks for the performance evaluation of hierarchical and modular software systems
Queueing networks with multiple classes of customers play a fundamental role for evaluating the performance of both software and hardware architectures. The main strength of product-form models, in particular of BCMP queueing networks, is that they combine a flexible formalism with efficient analysis techniques and solution algorithms. In this paper we provide an algorithm that starting from a ...
